Mexico’s risk-based approach methodology helps financial institutions identify and manage money-laundering and terrorist-financing risk in proportion to their actual exposure. Requirements depend on the entity and applicable CNBV provisions.
Core stages
- Identify: analyze customers, products, services, geographies, transactions, and distribution channels.
- Assess: estimate likelihood and impact using documented criteria.
- Mitigate: apply stronger controls where risk is higher.
- Monitor: review customer behavior, alerts, and changes in exposure.
- Document: preserve methodology, evidence, approvals, and updates.
Customer risk classification
Institutions combine factors such as economic activity, residency, ownership, transaction profile, product, channel, and relevant screening results. Weightings must reflect the institution’s own risk assessment; a sample formula is not a universal regulatory model.
Technology’s role
A connected AML platform can centralize risk factors, automate evaluations, generate alerts, track reviews, and update profiles as new transactions arrive.
Governance remains essential
Technology supports but does not replace accountable decisions. Policies, validation, training, independent review, and periodic updates are still required.
Dynamicore’s AML module connects risk assessment, screening, alerts, cases, and reporting with the financial core.
